Guar Gum Slime also sold as Body Slime is a somewhat difficult but rewarding slime. It is one of the lowest cost ones to make in bulk but the mixing process is difficult.
Normal Guar Gum Slime
Ingredients
- 80g guar gum
- 10g Borax (sodium borate)
- 11L Water (total)
- Pigment to color
Directions
- Make a 1% solution of borax and water. Do this by heating 1L of water and adding the 10g of sodium borax, stirring until dissolved, and then setting aside. You will only need about 300ml but my scale has issues with amounts that small.
- Make a mix of 1% of guar gum and water. Have the water in a bucket and VERY SLOWLY, with constant stirring, add 100 g of guar gum to the water. It is very important that you do it a pinch at a time, too much or if you do it while it isn’t being stirred it will clump and become unusable. The mixture will thicken slightly. The mixing process may take as much as 30 minutes. If you use an immersion blender you can get the guar dissolved without clumping in about 5 minutes.
- SLOWLY and a drop at a time add the borax solution to the guar gum solution while mixing, I recommend using your hand. It will start to thicken after about 200ml, it feels like little stains are forming as it crosslinks. Do not rush this and when it feels like it is almost where you want it, pause, after a few minutes it should be perfect.
Notes
- This stuff holds heat well, be careful.
- If you add the borax too fast you will just end up with a big ball.
- Depending on the quality of the ingredients you may need to adjust the mixture.
- This slime will keep for about 2-3 days, after that it will start to rot.
Clean Up
This still washes off of skin really easily in the shower.
To dispose of, put the leftover into the bucket. I normally half-fill the bathtub and dump about 5 gallons of the slime in then mix it till it is thinned out. Then I pull the plug and let it drain as I run the water.
Cake Mix Guar Gum Slime
Ingredients
- Guar Gum
- Water
- Cake Mix
- Borax
Directions
- Dissolve about 3g of borax in (250 ml) warm water. Set aside
- In a separate bowl combine two boxes of Betty Crocker Cake Batter slowly adding water until you have a smooth runny consistency. It should be about 500ML to 1L of water.
- Then, add 25g of Guar gum a pinch at a time. Stirring frequently in between to prevent any clumping. Go slowly, and you may have to add more water if it gets too thick to mix.
- Once you have maintained a smooth pourable consistency slowly add the borax water mixture in about 10ml (1tsp) increments and stir RAPIDLY. You need to add the borax very slowly or the whole mixture will clump. The entire time period of mixing borax it should take between 20 and 30 minutes, do not rush. For better results mix with your hands when adding the borax. Eventually, it should feel stringy, and over time lift it upwards from the bowl without any breaks or tears.
Notes
- This is a food-based slime, it will go bad fast.
- Be aware of any food allergies.
